REVIVER — Regenerative Agriculture for Vocational Education EU + Africa — is an initiative funded by the European Union to advance eco-sustainability and regenerative agriculture by building a comprehensive educational curriculum and an inter-regional network of stakeholders.
Objectives
- Increase vocational education and training (VET) providers’ and young farmers’ awareness of regenerative agriculture, and build the knowledge and skills needed to move from conventional to regenerative practice.
- Create a vocational curriculum for regenerative agriculture that reflects the geographical, climatic and ecological characteristics of both Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa, with mentorship opportunities for practitioners.
- Build an inter-regional network of stakeholders to strengthen and preserve biodiversity and soil fertility in line with the principles of regenerative agriculture.
From project to institutions
Rather than end with a report, REVIVER ended with institutions. Two Centres of Excellence were established as permanent regional hubs: the European centre in Nova Gradiška, Croatia, and the Sub-Saharan African centre hosted by Apex Agribusiness Academy, the AAA network’s partner in Arusha, Tanzania.
Between them the two centres have formalised partnerships with 57 organisations, built resource libraries in English and Swahili, and secured funding commitments intended to keep them operating for at least three years beyond the project. The African centre adapted the curriculum to resource-constrained contexts — cover crops from local species, composting from farm waste and minimal tillage — and localised the e-learning platform for low bandwidth and Swahili.
The project was implemented in Kenya, Tanzania and Ghana, led by Pannonia Consulting Group in Croatia.
